The first public meeting for the Save Southend A&E campaign took place on 11th May 2017, with 120+ members of the public in attendance to find out more about the campaign, and offer their support and skills.

The full minutes of the meeting can be downloaded here

The meeting was opened by Tim Sneller welcoming everyone, and giving a brief over view of what the campaign is fighting to achieve, and why it is so important. Already 3000 signatures have been collected during 2 sessions in the high street.  Clearly showing once people are informed of the facts they want to show their support.

Norman Traub, a former consultant at Southend Hospital and chair of the Keep Our NHS Public campaign group and part of Save Southend A&E then gave an update on the campaign so far, and what is ahead of us.

Kate a member of Save Southend A&E then gave some statistics, facts and busted some myths about what the public is being told by Success Regime Essex.

Following this discussion took place about the importance of joining the other campaigns in Essex together to share and support each other.

The floor was then opened for questions, see item 5 in the minutes for more details.  But there was a positive mixture of questions to find out how people can get involved, personal stories highlighting the need for the campaign and local representatives offering their support and backing.

A steering committee was then  voted in and is as follows

  1. Treasurer- Claire Fletcher
  2. Chair- Tim Sneller
  3. Secretary- Mike Fieldhouse
  4. Norman Traub
  5. Katie Sheehan
  6. Sulie Anstis

The next discussion was regarding the march on 20th May 2017, and encouraging everyone to attend.

Everyone was encouraged to take petitions, car stickers and flyers to share at home and work.

The meeting was closed.
